Humber College – Entrance

Location:               Toronto, ON
Type:                        Interior Renovation

The PODs and Leg 2 Retail Access marks the second phase of the Humber Retail strategy. The addition creates a creative node along a prime visibility location within the retail strategy and provides new student study pods at the old Humber main entrance.

The resulting retail work created an interior mall atmosphere linking multiple types of retail, including the Humber bookstore as the central node. The renovation linked six Humber buildings that were an intricate web of walls and doors.

The old Humber main entrance was a dark and hidden space, more likely an afterthought after a large expansion run of the college in the late 70s. ATA’s responsibility was to create an eye-catching anchor indicating to the students that they were entering the new Humber retail zone.

The work also creates an accessible entrance at Leg 2 of the retail zone.

The flowers on the ceiling and the reflective tile bounce the light around in the space creating a bright nod for students to follow. The student study pods are tucked into what was formerly an unused wall, creating private spaces for students to study or eat.
