Danish Pastry House

Danish Pastry House

Location:    Various GTA Locations, Ontario

Program:    Retail Renovation

Offering fresh breads and delectable pasties made from high-quality ingredients, the Danish Pastry coffeehouses have seen tremendous success.

ATA was inspired by the historic Gokstand long ship to distinguish the unique style of each retail location. Starting with their first bakery in Oakville, a suspended three-dimensional long ship provides scale and warmth to the interior. Each subsequent store includes a long ship interpreted in various ways to soften industrial spaces while representing Danish heritage and the country’s tradition of ship building.

The red in the Danish Pastry boxes and logo are derived from the Danish Flag. As a backdrop to the punch of red in the Danish Pastry House branding, ATA designed wood shelving with black metal racks with brass connectors to allow the red pastry boxes to visually jump out to the patron’s eye.

The use of wood, black metal and brass connectors is another nod to the boat building heritage of the Danes.

In the case of the Danish Pastry House, the recipe for success is a combination of design, product, and authenticity.
