Type: Addition and Renovation
ATA Architects Inc. is leading the renovation and additions of Mississauga Fire Stations 114 and 115, prioritizing sustainability, modern functionality, and operational efficiency. These projects include significant upgrades to the existing structures, incorporating advanced electrical and mechanical systems to improve energy efficiency. ATA’s approach focused on the integration of advanced HVAC systems and inclusive design elements to meet contemporary standards while ensuring the firehalls remain fully functional. Additionally, new ventilation systems have been implemented in compliance with NFPA standards to maintain hot, cold, and warm decontamination zones for firefighter safety.
The additions provide essential private spaces, including individual resting areas, change rooms, washrooms, and showers—critical enhancements as fire services evolve to support a diverse workforce. Historically, fire halls were designed with an all-male team in mind, lacking the necessary facilities for an inclusive environment. These upgrades address that gap, ensuring all firefighters, regardless of gender, have access to secure, comfortable, and private spaces.
Beyond meeting regulatory requirements, these enhancements foster inclusivity and a respectful workplace culture. Private change rooms and washrooms allow firefighters to maintain their privacy, while dedicated shower areas provide all personnel with a space to clean up after demanding shifts. More than just practical upgrades, these improvements support the physical and mental well-being of firefighters, reinforcing team morale and cohesion within the fire stations.
